How come, back when we were listening to Negativland, we didn’t find out about The Tape-Beatles?

And by “we” I guess I mean “I.” Why didn’t I know about these guys?

Found this old postcard for a Trike/Sprague show, at the Charleston, a bar/pizza joint where the owner would swing flashlights around as makeshift spotlights. Circa 1996?

The fantabulous band K. is gearing up for a two-show stint (after so many years!).

A. and I are stuck in the lovely Denver airport.  Our 2pm flight is delayed, putting us in EWR at 2 am or so…assuming we actually get there at all.

Oh boy!  At least they have very slow free wifi and we have staked out a comfy table will an AC outlet. I pulled 4 chairs together and was nodding off listening to the sounds of airline passengers being paged…”paging Mr. So-and-so, Mr. Blah So-and-so when I started repeating Mr. Dobalina, mr Bob Dobalina to A.  A few minutes later over the central airport speakers came the actual page ” Mr. Dobalina, Mr. Bob Dobalina”.

Apparently he is now supposed to go to the nearest pay phone or courtesy station.  Should I answer the page?

And about 20 seconds into this clip he is paged again.

I suggested the above image as a cover, but he thought it was too dark. So in revenge I am posting it in this post. About an album called Post. It’s eastern Washington state from early 80s or late 70s. Wheat fields in the spring, I’m guessing.

A slightly flat but still excellent alternate take of Bob Wills “Stay a Little Longer,” via John P.

There’s a bunch of other Bob Wills videos on YouTube that are excerpts from two post-war western, as helpful (very very rare on YouTube comments) user “Banks1042″ notes:

The movie is Lawless Empire – It also features: Stay all Night, Stay a Little Longer; Farther Along; and Young and Foolish.

Blazing the Western Trail features: Time Changes Everything; Ida Red; and Goodbye Liza Jane.

All the songs appear to have been rerecorded for these movies.

Listening to this I started wondering about the definition of “wing ding.” Turns out: 1) it’s not that old; and 2) no one seems to know the origin.

And there’s the font.

I had a dream on Tuesday night in which someone explained to me that before records and wax cylinders, snakes were a choice recording medium. I don’t know how you’d use or play them back, maybe like a wire recorder? Anyhow I recall looking into a basket of snakes and each one was a different song. I think a label on the basket lid told you which was what.

It wasn’t this.

I was trying to get a clear cell phone signal while up at The Walden School last weekend and went to a high classroom in the science building.

It didn’t help much with the phone signal, but while up there I spotted this mysterious equation on the right hand side of the chalkboard.
